When they pull over we hear them getting out of the car but dont see it, we can also hear their foot steps as they tread on plants along with the sound of mosquitos that we can not see. Small sounds like pulling out a knife and opening the car boot are emphasised as they help to build/maintain the tension. This is diegetic sound along with the sounds of the man being stabbed as the sounds are implied by the action.
We hear another character fire a gun and this is closely followed by non diegetic sound of another car passing, this keeps the tension as it makes you think there is the possibility of that cars driver hearing the gun shots and coming to investigate.
Good work on linking the sounds to creating tension/suspense. Try to link any of the sounds to thriller themes (if possible) and just check your clarity on diegetic and non-diegetic sound. Read this to help you: http://filmsound.org/terminology/diegetic.htm
