In my thriller opening the main character
is a teenage girl therefore teenagers are being represented. This is important as they are part of my target audience (15-24yearolds) This also goes against the stereotypical conventions of thrillers where men are usually the main
character.
I wanted to challenge the idea that men are dominant over women, I think I did this by making both the lead ‘good’ character and ‘bad’ character women in my product.
This ‘bad’ character particularly challenges the stereotype of most thrillers as it is a woman taking control and coming back to take revenge on a man and his family, therefore making a man a victim where as often it is shown to be the other way round.

When you look at all the characters collectively the social groups that are represented in
my thriller are a white middle class traditional nuclear family. However when you break it down you see that there is a representation of younger characters and this links to the target audience as I aimed to target
15-24 year olds.
Because of this I thought if I used a younger cast, roughly between these ages, it would be easier for my target audience to relate to the characters.
I was particularly trying to target more women than men as when I did my audience research I had a bigger response from women, this helped to influence my choice of having women as the main characters over a man.
The older age groups from about 30+ are also represented by the characters of the mother and father.
The younger age group, around 11years, is also represented to some extent by the younger brother. This could attract a younger audience than I originally intended especially as my product has a content that could be seen as suitable for parental guidance as there is no gore or violence

Consider how you represented these social groups using different elements of your thriller e.g. costumes, props, actions, the plot, camera angles & shots.
ReplyDeleteYou also need to consider whether your representations are positive or negative, and talk about stereotypes.
